Members and friends of Pittman Park,

As you may know, Pittman Park United Methodist Church is a part of the South Georgia Annual Conference, a connection of churches who work together to make disciples and transform the world. This Saturday, August 20, 2022 a special session of the South Georgia Annual Conference will be held to ratify the decision of 61 churches to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church and leave the South Georgia Annual Conference over issues surrounding human sexuality, accountability to the Book of Discipline, and theology.

I ask for you to be in prayer for these churches and for our Annual Conference as we navigate forward into the future. Especially, be in prayer for our church as we begin talking about where our denomination, conference, and church are headed.

This week we hold our first conversation about our future. The dates and locations of future conversations are below.

I conclude this week by saying that I love God, I love people, and I love Pittman Park. My hope is that we, as a church, would continue to keep our focus on our mission making disciples and transforming the world. I see God at work here among us—from youth professing faith in Jesus Christ, to new members, new missions, and opportunities to continue to reach our community—and an incredible opportunity to share the Gospel in Statesboro. I pray that we would not become so consumed by controversy that we fail to do the Kingdom work we are here to do. I pray that our eyes would open to see God’s work among us, our ears ready to hear the voice of God and one another as we speak, our hands moving to serve others, and that our words would be compassionate and grace-filled.

God bless,
Jonathan
