Pittman Park’s Green Team has only been active for 6 months, but we are pleased to report many positive effects of the team in 2025. The list of accomplishments below includes more than $2,000 in savings for Pittman Park, and new community partnerships and publicity. RECYCLING
- We began colleting aluminum cans to benefit Habitat for Humanity.
- We began collecting egg cartons to benefit the Statesboro Food Bank
- We began recycling cardboard boxes from Backpack Buddies.
- We hosted Batteries Recycling at the Bulloch County RecycleFest.
- We supported on-site recycling from GreenRock Recycling.
KITCHEN
- We activated a dish washing team at Open Table and other church meal functions
- We began washing cups as well as plates and flatware
- We realized a savings of over $1,000 in kitchen supplies.
LAND USE
- We installed decorative planters at the three main church entrances.
- We partnered with the Georgia Southern Botanic Garden to plant and distribute 20 persimmon trees, donating 11 to the Statesboro Food Bank.
- We planted 7 Persimmon trees on the East end of Pittman Park’s yard.
- We planted 1 Live Oak tree in the front yard near where two diseased trees will soon be removed.
- We received press coverage from Grice Connect for our new Persimmon orchard.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
- We submitted three grant proposals for energy efficiency upgrade support.
- We received a grant from GIPL for $1174.32 to install smart thermostats.
- We began tracking energy use through an Energy Star dashboard
