“But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:21–23
This week we’re looking at what it means to be secure, not because our circumstances are stable, but because God is. Jeremiah wrote those words from the middle of a burned city, watching everything he knew fall apart. And still he lands on hope. Not because his situation changed, but because he remembered who God is. That’s the whole message this Sunday: You Are Secure, Because I Am Faithful. Our security was never meant to rest on what we can see or control, it rests on the unchanging character of God.
That truth is about to hit close to home. This Sunday at 11:00, we’re commissioning our medical mission team as they head to Barahona, Dominican Republic, July 18–25. They’ll serve through our clinic, Buen Samaritano, in Batey 7, providing medical care across several Bateys to a community of primarily Haitian sugar cane workers, people who live with about as much daily insecurity as anyone we know: no reliable access to medical care, clean water, food, or basic necessities. Our team expects to see around 600 individuals over the course of the week.
And yet the same promise holds for them as it does for us. God’s faithfulness was never contingent on stable circumstances, it’s poured out regardless of what someone’s life looks like. This week, part of how that faithfulness reaches the Bateys is through the hands of our own church family.
Please be praying between now and the 25th for:
- Dr. Leslie Pittman, our team leader
- John and Donna Bearden, our B.I.G. Hope missionaries
- The medical mission team members
- Pastor Pedro and the congregation of La Primera Iglesia Evangelica Dominicana de Barahona
- The clinic staff who lead our medical ministry in the Dominican Republic
God bless, and see you Sunday,
Jonathan Smith
