It’s a Family Ministries Takeover for Pastor’s Corner today, and you are hearing from the Children’s Director! I am so proud to be at a church with a thriving, growing ministry to children, and this current season has been especially exciting over here in Family Ministries.

Last week, Pastor Stephanie and I traveled all the way to Durham, North Carolina to participate in a workshop at Duke Seminary. Pastors and Children’s Ministry professionals from across the country collaborated and conversed about what it looks like when young children are engaged in a worship service that fully embraces their needs and gifts.

Right after we got back, we saw an example of this as the Kids Choir shared with the congregation during the Traditional service. Their performance was a nurturing reminder for the grown-ups of what it might look like to “become like little children” to enter the Kingdom as Jesus says in Matthew 18:3.

This week, Pastor Stephanie and I joined with leadership at Brannen Chapel UMC and Statesboro First UMC to create a revival experience for children. We call it Power Camp, and it has been a thrill to see children who are so young, who I know face struggles, learn about the mighty power of God that is even now shaping them into world-changers!

And Sunday will be Family First Sunday, when children are invited to stay for the full worship service. These Sundays are our chance to remind the children again that we want them with us, not just so they can learn to be grown-ups, but because we are not complete without them in our midst.

Join me in celebrating the hilarious, brilliant, fascinating children that belong to Pittman Park.

With gratitude,

Ms. Megan Hopkins
