Charles Black Memorial Education Scholarship

The Charles Black Memorial Education Scholarship is awarded each spring to a student pursuing post-secondary education.

Who should apply?

The Charles Black Memorial Education Scholarship is intended to supplement post-secondary educational funds for Pittman Park United Methodist Church youth who demonstrate leadership ability. Preference will be given for the following:

1. Students applying for scholarship funds to pursue full-time study at an accredited institution for an undergraduate college or university degree or a technical school certificate or degree.

2. Active members of Pittman Park United Methodist Church.

3. Those with financial need as evidenced on the FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR). Visit fafsa.gov for more information on completing this free form.

Not Elgible to Apply

Employees of Pittman Park United Methodist Church or Pittman Park Education Center receiving annual wages from the Church in excess of $10,000 are not eligible to apply. Spouses of these employees are also not eligible to apply for the Charles Black Scholarship. In addition, students with a high school GPA less than 3.0 or a college GPA less than 2.5 are not eligible to apply.

Garland and Grace Black established this scholarship in memory of their son, Charles Black. Charles was an active youth at Pittman Park United Methodist Church when he was tragically killed in a car accident.
