Hi, Pittman Park Family!
I want to invite you to join in prayer for our Inside Us camp happening from Monday, June 10 to Friday, June 14. Throughout the week, we will be welcoming children from across our community to hear the message of Jesus’ love! Church camp is a significant opportunity for growth, fellowship, and spiritual renewal for everyone involved—from our children to our volunteers and staff. Your prayers are invaluable in creating a supportive and spiritually uplifting environment, helping to ensure a fun, transformative, and enriching experience for all.
Speaking of Inside Us, I want to share with you one of the greatest gifts in my interior life: the jukebox* in my mind that plays an endless stream of melodies. Sometimes you can hear me humming along, sometimes I’m singing, and sometimes I’m just bobbing my head to the beat. These days, that jukebox features a lot of Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, and the Zac Brown Band, along with tracks from Brandon Lake, Phil Wickham, John Wesley, and a few others.
* For those who might not remember, there was a time when you could drop a quarter into a machine at the Waffle House and select your favorite song to be played throughout the restaurant from their vinyl collection. That machine, often situated right next to the cigarette vending machine, was a fixture of a different era.
But sometimes, the music in my mind is drowned out by the noise of my thoughts. Negative thoughts, anxieties, and fears can create such a clamor that it’s hard to hear anything else. And if I’m being really honest, those thoughts often control my attitude and actions.
What if I told you it didn’t have to be this way?
What if I told you that by taking control of our thoughts, we could also take control of our attitude and actions? What if we didn’t have to be victims of overthinking, fear, or anxiety?
What if it was as simple as picking a new soundtrack? Scripture tells us that we have the power, through the Holy Spirit, to take every thought captive. We can set our hearts and minds on things above, focusing on what is noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, or praiseworthy. In doing so, we can transform our lives. We just need a new soundtrack.
I invite you to join us for worship over the next three weeks as we explore how to develop new soundtracks that empower us to live lives faithful to God and help us grow as disciples of Jesus Christ.
See you Sunday for week one of Soundtracks!
