Join us for an eight-week Bible study that explores the connection between scripture and the Civil Rights Movement. Each week, we’ll reflect on passages from the Bible alongside key writings from figures like Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., and Fannie Lou Hamer. The study concludes with the opportunity to take a pilgrimage to Montgomery, Alabama, to visit historic landmarks of the Civil Rights Movement.
Join us on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. beginning January 8.

Hi Rosemarie,
Thank you for reaching out! This study does not focus on a single book. Instead, we’ll explore a variety of scripture passages alongside key texts from the Civil Rights Movement and beyond. Some of the materials include:
Historical Documents: Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address and the Emancipation Proclamation.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: Letter from a Birmingham Jail and the I Have a Dream speech.
Testimonies and Writings: Fannie Lou Hamer’s testimony at the 1964 Democratic National Convention.
Books: Excerpts from Howard Thurman’s Jesus & The Disinherited, John Lewis’ Across That Bridge, and James Cone’s The Cross and the Lynching Tree.
Modern Reflections: Barack Obama’s speech on the 50th anniversary of the Selma march.
This class will be highly discussion-based, encouraging open minds and a willingness to engage with diverse perspectives on the church’s role in race and justice in America.
I’m looking forward to having you join us!
