In Pittman Park’s early decades, two retired school teachers were a beloved presence.

Marie Wood had taught upper-elementary students in the Marvin Pittman Laboratory School. The school was home to Pittman Park as their facility was being constructed. As a member of Pittman Park, she continued teaching children during Sunday School, and she also volunteered in the youth program.

Marion Dozier was a charter member of Pittman Park and active in the congregation for over two decades.

Marie Wood and Marion Dozier were good friends and lived together near Pittman Park at 1206 Fair Road. Their little house still stands as the home to a student organization: Campus Christian Fellowship (CCF).

Both women died in the early 1980s and both left money to Pittman Park in their will. The total was about $20,000 and became a lifeline to the congregation over the decades. During times of financial hardship, Pittman Park would borrow from the Wood and Dozier funds, always paying back for future use.

In the 2020s, the funds were consolidated and officially designated for use as a reserve for church operations: The Wood-Dozier fund. Gift to the Wood-Dozier Fund can be made at pittmanpark.org/give.
