We have had an exciting kick-off to our fall activities here at Pittman Park. Each week we are seeing more and more people joining us for community, discipleship, and worship. It’s an exciting time to be a part of what God is doing here at the church! I believe it’s also an important time to remember who we are and why we are here. It’s an important time to reconnect with our vision and values as we seek to be the people and the church that God is calling us to be.

So, what is our mission here at Pittman Park?

Our mission is “Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World.” We are a people and a church called to live out the Great Commission found in Matthew 28:18-20 by making disciples of Jesus day by day, knowing that Jesus is with us as we go. I believe the Great Commission is only accomplished when we are committed to living out Jesus’ Greatest Commandments found in Matthew 22:35-40—to love God and love people.

Our mission is best lived out in community with others. The truth is that we are better and stronger in our faith when we are together in deep relationships, in discipleship that challenges us and stretches us, and in worship that gathers us in as we glorify God. In other words, we can’t live out our mission independently, we need each other to grow and to go into the world with God’s message of hope and salvation.

My prayer is that we would remind and recommit ourselves to our mission of making disciples and transforming the world. There are so many other things that can vie for our time and attention, but God has placed us here with a unique opportunity to share God’s love and grace with our family, our friends, our neighbors, and our world so that every person can know that God loves them and has a place for them in God’s kingdom.

Thanks for being a part of Pittman Park! I can’t wait to see where living out our mission will take us!

God bless,
Jonathan Smith
