This Sunday marks the third week of Advent and the theme of this week is joy. Traditionally, on this Sunday we hear Jesus’ mother Mary sing the Magnificat found in Luke 1:46-56 or we hear the voice of Isaiah proclaiming that God’s the whole of creation will be overcome with joy in Isaiah 35:1-2. Historically, on the Third Sunday of Advent churches would hold elaborate feasts to celebrate together the coming of Christ.
Well, we won’t have a feast this Sunday, but we a feast of opportunities for us to gather together, to celebrate, and to prepare our hearts for Christmas. I hope you will make worship, celebration, and contemplation a part of your rhythm this season.
